It is time for us to say goodbye to 2013. Saying goodbye is bitter sweet for me. I have had the most adventurous year of my life thus far, and that of course is hard to say goodbye to. With that said, I am SO EXCITED to see what 2014 has in store for me.
This year I turn a quarter century old. I am old, but young. Old enough to make goals and try my best to achieve them, but young enough to try again if I fail.
So in 2014 I have made 25 goals for myself. One goal for each year of my life! Most I strive to achieve year after year, but writing them down as a reminder isn't a bad thing.
25 goals in 2014:
1. See beautiful places. 2013 I spent gallivanting around the world. I have seen some of the MOST beautiful places in the world – Rome, Venice, Prague, Krakow, London, Budapest, etc. etc. But I know there is so much more to see! I would love to also travel within the states. I’ve never been to more than half this country! What am I waiting for?
2. Stop pretending I don’t give a f*^$. Because ... well I do. And while most people make it a point to NOT care, I will make it a point to admit that I DO care. I don’t care if people think the outfit I am wearing is ugly or that the glasses I wear don't compliment my features, but I do care that people think positively about me, because I am a good person.
3. Stop spending so much money on clothes. I usually see a dress at Forever 21 for $19.99 that looks very similar to the one that I bought at BCBG Maxazria for $300. And although a girl can never have too many shoes, a girl can have too little closet space.
4. Stop posting mean stuff on social media. Sometimes I find it necessary to post really sassy things on social media, but in reality no one cares that I think being proposed to around the holidays is cliché. The people who care are the people who got engaged around this time, and them, I am only hurting. Lucky for me, I have a wonderful man who reminds me that the only people laughing at sassy sarcastic tweets are assholes too. (With that said, my political comments will not stop. Neither will be advocacy comments. Sorry!)
5. Learn to ski/snowboard. Ideally, I’d prefer snowboarding, but my first attempt at teaching myself two years ago was a MASSIVE fail. This year I plan on trying again for my birthday! Might as well make the most of this crazy cold weather. Oh, and I would also like to learn Ballet, and Barre, and French, and …
6. Learn to cook. At least ONE good meal. One day I plan on having a family! I cannot deprive my children of homemade pasta sauce, apple pie, etc. etc. I mean ... I can deprive them of all those things because they would still be happy with McDonalds Happy Meals, but I would rather not.
7. Get a dog. Just kidding Mom. …. Just kidding again.
8. Be a great daughter.
9. Be a great sister.
10. Be a great Aunt.
11. Be a great friend.
12.. Be a great girlfriend.
13. Continue to genuinely be happy for people. When I see someone scored a new job, received a great promotion, or is achieving some type of fame – I will continue to be happy for them. Why get jealous? Chances are I didn’t want that job and I surely do not want to be famous. And I am sure they worked hard for it. So instead of jealousy I will be motivated by their will.
14. Stop responding to texts from guys who have girlfriends. Yes, I am talking to you. (Was that sassy? Do I need to refer back to #4?)
15. Keep a clean room. My room usually reflects what is going on in my life. Anyone who has seen my room knows. Craziness at all. times. ALL. TIMES. In 2014 I want to come home to the cleanest room of life.
16. Get manicures on a regular basis. For no other reason other than they make me feel good.
17. Volunteer. Volunteer at the food bank, and the animal shelter, at a run. Anywhere I can! Volunteer my time to a family member or friend in need. I never want to be too busy that I can't stop to help.
18. Donate. To friends raising money, to different organizations. I won’t miss the money. I've proven that while spending it on things that brought no joy to my life.
19. Continue learning. From my peers, from my opportunities, and from my failures.
20. Continue working out and continue being healthy. I have never woken up thinking to myself, “Man, I really regret that leg workout I did yesterday.” But I have woken up (too many times) thinking to myself “I hate alcohol. I hate alcohol.” On this note, I will also stop being so harsh on my body. “Fat” talk, is a thing of the past. Skinny is beautiful. Big is beautiful. Whatever you consider yourself, rock it. Confidence is key.
21. Continue running (even though most of the time I can come up with a great excuse why a training run is not needed). That goal of a two hour half time isn't going to reach itself.
22.. Continue dancing and singing (really loud). Basically, never stop participating in karaoke. The only ones judging are the ones sitting on the sidelines, usually not courageous enough to try it themselves.
23. Explore more of NYC. I’ve never walked the Brooklyn Bridge, seen the statue of Liberty, or had a drink at 230 Fifth. Am I really a New Yorker?
24. Continue smiling as much as possible. When I am having an awful day a five second smile makes me feel a little better. You can’t think miserable thoughts while smiling. A real genuine smile. (I know at least one of you tried it).
25. See more beautiful places. And although there is so much of this country I haven’t seen … I wouldn’t mind taking a plane straight to New Zealand or Italy or Poland and spending a great amount of time there. Whose in??
These are my personal goals for 2014. What are yours?
